A New Venture for me

My daughter and I have a new site for your attention. It is “Jewelry A’La Mode” and contains a multitude of necklaces for your pleasure. Many different styles, colors, lengths, and bead types are available. Each is a handmade, one-of-kind, original creation. Click onto Jewelryalamode.com and browse to your heart’s content. You will find a picture of each necklace and its price. All prices have been reduced from the original. Some pieces will show the discounted cost. Other information such as length and clasp type is available at the click of your finger on “attributes”. If you need further details I will be happy to converse with you via email at mizmlu@gmail.com. However, prices listed are firm.
Shipping in an organza pouch is free in the US for purchases of more than $10. All other sales will ship at USPS charge, rounded up to the next even $ amount, unless you choose a different shipper. No charge is ever made for handling. Faster shipment is available with USPS additional charges. Contact me for International shipping as countries vary in cost. I will quote you the USPS charge. For all International shipping, your charge will be the USPS charge or whatever shipping choice you make such as Fed Ex or other.
Payment is by Pay Pal. Easy purchase is through the required information when you click on the item.
Another cute little feature of this site is color choices. If you are interested in a red necklace, for example, click on “red” in the tag list and all the red necklaces available will appear. What could be better? However, you might miss a great necklace in a different color that way.  Please come and take a look.
When I finish listing all the necklaces I have available for your choice there will be over 100. So you will have much to choose from. My pleasure was in the making. I hope you find pleasure in the wearing.

Back to making jewelry

I just returned to my jewelry making activities after spending all my time preparing for the craft show. Unfortunately that was a huge disappointment. But it hasn’t deterred me from creating new jewelry items. Fire Mountain, where I get a lot of my materials, had a sale that I couldn’t resist. When the big package arrived I sorted the little packages, putting colors together, and my creative juices flowed. I’m back, doing what makes me happy.
While I wait for my daughter to make time to come and take pictures, I have several other pieces that I will be putting up on Etsy today. They are not Christmas related items, so if you come by my shop please scroll down to the new items, right after the Christmas pieces.
It’s 10am in So. California right now and it will take me a couple of hours to sort them out, find the pictures and post them in Etsy, on Pinterest and tweet them. So please wait until afternoon to take a look at my latest creations. Thanks. Hope you find something you like.

You’re invited to join in my latest activity

My latest endeavor is participating in a craft fair organized by some of the residents of the Mobile Home Park where I have lived for 12 years, in Canoga Park, CA.  Some of the ladies in the park spend their free time creating beautiful things such as jewelry, clothing, home decor and Christmas items.  Our show is coming up next weekend on Nov. 8.

I am in the process of gathering together all the goodies I want to display at my table.  I will have many Christmas items such as a handmade ladies vest, several earrings I made, some I bought years P1560135ago, and a gorgeous necklace in red, green, & other beads on a silver chain.  Picture doesn’t do it justice. It glows with Christmas spirit.

I have been working to identify and price each item and in the process I thought it would be a good idea to inventory what I had and where I  kept it.  I found 146 necklaces that I had created but hadn’t sold.  I have at least 10 more up for sale this month on my Etsy shop.  That’s just a portion of what I have made, sold, or given away over the years.

And the earrings, OMG, the earrings!  When I have a few pieces that just don’t fit into a necklace or bracelet they become earrings.  I have some old beaded Christmas earrings up for sale that I made a long time ago.  It may sound strange, but I get pleasure from creating something that someone might enjoy wearing.

If you happen to live in my home town, Canoga Park, or the vicinity of the San Fernando Valley, CA., the show will be at 8811 Canoga Ave., Canoga Park on Nov. 8 from 9-3.  You won’t be disappointed at the variety of beautiful creations made by my talented neighbors.

Just in case you can’t make it to the show, you can view my creations at http://mizmlu.etsy.com.  Expired items can be renewed if you are interested.

Halloween jewelry

I wore this necklace along with my beaded pumpkin earrings and a green blouse to a meeting of my friends last weekend.  We share books we’ve read and like.  I got a lot of compliments on both the earrings and my necklace.  I made the pumpkin earrings many years ago, only wear them during the Halloween period and they are an attention getter.  This peach colored necklace was perfect with them and the green blouse. http:mizmlu.etsy.com

Protect your Jewelry with a pouch

I just received a package of beautiful organza jewelry pouches from China.  From this day on every necklace and bracelet I sell on my Etsy site will be placed in one of these pouches at no extra charge.  They come in 6 different colors and will be suitable for gift giving or just as a little protection in your jewelry box.  These pouches are transparent so the jewelry can be identified without opening the pouch.

I am very pleased to be able to add this feature to my Etsy shop and hope that my customers enjoy the extra care and thought I give to them.  Come see my shop at www.etsy.com/shop/mizmlu.

I just listed the jewelry associated with the Astrological sign of Taurus.  You’ll find the jewelry for that sign in the Sections portion of my shop. Maybe you’ll see the perfect piece for Spring.

Taurus April 21-May 21

Taurus is the sign of the bull, dependable, persistant, loyal, patient and generous.  They follow the leader and add to the endeavor.  Taurus is an excellent friend and has a knack for finance.  Colors associated with Taurus are like a garden in early summer-soft greens, rose-pinks, pale turquoise and blue.  You’ll find your Taurus jewelry in my Etsy shop under “sections” as well as in the regular listings.  www.etsy.com/shop/mizmlu.

Why do I Make Jewelry?

Good question.  I make jewelry because it satisfies my creative urges.  I would love to draw pictures, but I have no talent for this.  I have produced all sorts of needlework such as sewing, knitting, needlepoint, crocheting, making afghans for each of my offspring, even grandkids and babies as they come along.  But I don’t do much of any of those things anymore. Cooking doesn’t appeal to me, nor gardening.  I don’t have the energy to tend to a yard and I don’t have nuch of a yard where I now live, but I have pots of greenery on the porch. I have to remember to water them.

However,  I can excel in making jewelry.  I search the various sources for beads that have character, color, design and a different style.  I am completely addicted to making necklaces, bracelets and earrings. I haven’t counted but I may have almost 200 jewelry pieces.

I recently disposed of the bed in my guest room and turned it into a studio so I can spread out and not have to clear the table when guests come for dinner.  When I wander into my “studio” I am immediately struck by the need to work on the current project.  I lose myself in it.

The fact that I have not sold a piece of jewelry in more than 4 months depresses me, but doesn’t deter me from making something new, or finishing a project started a while ago, or, making a trip to the bead shop.

I only wish that the love I have for my designs would translate into an equal monetary appreciation for my work.  Casual friends have all commented on the various pieces, but they are not buyers.

My Etsy store is at www.etsy.com/shop/mizmlu

Some of my jewelry is on Ebay as well as Pinterest, classifiedads and a  few other places.

I’d like to hear your comment.  I’ll reward you with a piece of my jewelry in the color you prefer.
